Madrid is the biggest town of all the towns that there are in Spain.

Madrid is the biggest town of/in Spain.

2. Regular adjectives and pronouns

2.1. One syllable adjectives:


Añaden –er para el comparativo y –est para el superlativo.


Si el adjetivo acaba en consonante+vocal+consonante duplica la última:

Nice nicer nicest fast faster fastest

Big bigger biggest fat fatter fattest.


Si acaba en consonante +"y" cambia a "i"; sin cambios si acaba en vocal + "y".

shy shier shiest pero grey greyer greyest

2.2. Three-syllable adjectives:


Los adjetivos "largos" usan "more" y "most" delante:

Spanish is more difficult than English.

Chinese is the most difficult language.

Los adjetivos o adverbios de dos sílabas hacen la comparación como los de una… o como los de tres o más, como más nos guste:


Polite – politer - politest


Los adjetivos acabados en –ed o –ing siempre con more, most.


Los adjetivos acabados en –y o –w suelen usar –er, -est:


freezing more freezing most freezing

Funny – funnier – funniest

narrow – narrower – narrowes

Recuerda: no importa el número de sílabas.

Todos los adjetivos o adverbios igual:


AS +ADJECTIVE /ADVERB + ASS


he’s as clever as her father.

Maths are as difficult as Literature.

Nota:
Estructura usada para comparaciones y exageraciones.

Es más listo que un zorro//He’s as cunning as a fox

COMPARISON: Inferiority

Recuerda: no importa el número de sílabas.

Comparativo: less
Superlativo: least

He’s less tall than Gasol.
He’s the least intelligent in the class.

COMPARISON: Other uses
Incremento gradual.

Estructura "cuanto más… más" (doble comparativo).

It was getting darker and darker.
The more you study, the better.
The more you work, the more you earn.
The sooner, the better.
The less you say, the less they know
